The Dixson Library, part of the State Library of New South Wales, Sydney, holds a small portrait of Major Behm (reference no. Q 77/37). The portrait is only tentatively attributed to Webber as it is executed in guache, a medium which the artist rarely used. It is not known whether this work was painted in Kamchatka or was copied from a larger oil portrait at a later date in England. If it is the latter, then that large portrait is awaiting discovery!
I am looking for the portrait of Karl Magnus von Behm, Russian governor of Kamchatka, 1772 to 1779 painted by Webber.
