The bibliography attempts to list all the monographs published over the last 55 years related to James Cook, his life and career, the voyages, and people connected in some way with him.
One work covers material about Cook prior to 1970 and is extremely comprehensive.
Bibliography of Captain James Cook, R.N., F.R.S., Circumnavigator,
edited by M.K. Beddie. Sydney: Library of New South Wales, 1970. 724099999.
“Beddie” is essential for anyone interested in Cook.
However, some items were missed as their existence or relevance was not realised. Where now known, they have been included here.
The list attempts to be comprehensive but it is probable that some (many?) titles have been overlooked. Items will continue to be added as details are located. Please let me know about omissions.

- Chapters from monographs – entered under overall title of work)
Not included:

Organisation And Layout
Entries comprise:
- Author
- Title
- Place of publication
- Publisher
- Date of publication
- ISBN (if one exists)
- Edition (no statement implies it to be first edition)
Where a work has been published in different countries or has undergone new or revised editions, these are added.
Entries are in alphabetical order.
Where up to three main authors are known the entry is organised by the surname of the first or principal author. Where four or more, or no authors can be established the entry is organised by the first word of the title. For title entries, the definite and indefinite articles, if they come first, are ignored.
Edited works and compilations are organised by either the original author or by title and not by the editor or compiler.
To ease use the list has been split into two:
- Cook books A – J
- Cook books K – Z
