CCS in Australia 2014

The Australian Branch celebrates 30 years since its formation with two special meetings in August 2014

The NSW meeting will be held on Thursday, 21 August, in HMB Endeavour replica at the Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour, Sydney.  We shall be welcomed aboard by Captain John Dikkenberg at 5:30pm, after the public have completed their tours.

There will be a display of early 17th and 18th century maps including a map from Isaac Manley, who joined Endeavour, aged 13, as a servant to the master, Robert Molineux.  Manley was the last
living member of the company, and rose to become an Admiral of the British Navy.

After the meeting, we shall adjourn at 7pm to the “Deck”, on the first floor of the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel, adjacent to the Maritime Museum, where our Australian President will host finger food and a drink in celebration.

Please advise the NSW Co-ordinators of your attendance by 21 July, so they can arrange sufficient catering.  Email Mal Nicolson

The VIC meeting will take place on Thursday 28 August from 11.00am to 2.00pm at Alvie Hall, on the corner of Alvie Road and High Street Road, Mt Waverley.  Entry to the car park is from Alvie Road (Melway map 61, ref D11).

CCS life members Ken Sheahan and Riemer Brouwer will speak on the history of the branch and share their anecdotes about the early years.

Members are most welcome to bring guests, and please bring any items from your collection you would like to display at the meeting.

To assist with catering for the event please email Ted Tierney of your attendance by Friday, 22 August.

Hi Digby, I have forwarded your message to Mal Nicholson who is the current President of the CCS-Australia. He should be able to answer your questions.

Hi Ted. I am a member of the CCS, live in Phoenix, Arizona and plan on visiting Sydney this coming June 6 - 20. Are there any events planned during this 2 week period? Will the Endeavor replica be in Sydney at that time and if so, will it be possible to go on board and get to know this ship?
I'm fascinated with Cook's history and have put together a 4 part, 6 hour PPT on this man and his voyages. Cheers,
