On 9 June, 1771, James Cook wrote “Clear pleasent weather and a Smooth Sea... Some Tropick Birds flying about the Ship, we have seen of these birds every day sence we pass'd the Tropick” of Cancer.

 

Joseph Banks wrote “Less Gulph-Weed; 2 Tropick birds flying as before”.
