On 6 December, 1768, James Cook wrote “run higher up the Bay and Anchor'd in 15 fathom water a little below the Isle or Church of Bon Voyage. Found the Cable Very much rub'd several fathoms from the Anchor”.

Joseph Banks wrote “No land breeze today so we are confind in our disagreable situation without a possibility of moving: many curses were this day expended on his excellence”.
