On 28 January, 1770, James Cook wrote “thick hazey weather with much rain”.

Joseph Banks wrote “This morn at day break it Raind very hard but not enough to disturb the concert of our little musical [neighbours, the Bellbirds] which we every morning attend to with the greatest pleasure, they sung their time till the sun disturbd them as usual; the rain however continued the whole day”.
