On 27 January, 1771, James Cook wrote “Little wind and some times calm... Departed this Life Mr Sidney Parkinson Natural History Painter to Mr Banks, and soon after Jno Ravenhill, Sailmaker, a Man much advanced in years”.


Joseph Banks wrote “Tho better than yesterday my pains were still almost intolerable. In the Evening Mr Parkinson died and one of the ships crew”.
