21 January, 1770

On 21 January, 1770, James Cook wrote “In the AM after hauling the Saine for fish I gave every body leave to go a Shore at the Watering place to amuse themselves as they thought proper”.

Joseph Banks wrote “Dr Solander and myself were fishing today with hook and line and caught an immence number of fish every where upon the rocks in 4 or 5 fathom water. We have indeed immence plenty, the Seine is hawld every night and seldom fails to furnish us with as much fish as we can possibly destroy”.
