17 December, 1768

On 17 December, 1768, James Cook wrote “Put the Ships Company to Watch & Watch”.
It meant that half of the men would be on duty every four hours, and get only four hours of rest. They had been on three watches since 20 September.

Joseph Banks wrote “Wind foul, blew rather fresh, so the ship heeld much which made our affairs go on rather uncomfortably”.
