On 15 May, 1771, Joseph Banks saw a man of war bird

On 15 May, 1771, James Cook wrote “In the AM brought another Fore Topsail to the Yard the Old one being quite wore out”.

Joseph Banks wrote “Our trade [wind] begins now to slacken very much. A man of war bird was seen”.

Possibly the Ascension Frigate Bird (Fregata aquila).
