On 14 June, 1771, James Cook wrote “A Gentle Gale and pleasent weather. In the AM Saw Two Turtle laying a Sleep upon the water”.

 

Joseph Banks wrote “Light winds and smooth water; two turtle were seen and a little Gulph-weed”.
