On 13 July, 1770, James Cook wrote “Employ'd takeing on board water, stores &ca. At noon the Yawl returnd with one turtle and a large sting-ray... In the PM compleated our water and got on board all the Bread and part of the Boatswains stores.  In the evening sent the turtlers out again”.


Joseph Banks wrote “Two Indians came in their Canoe to the ship, staid by her a very short time and then went along shore striking fish. Our Boat returnd from the reef with one turtle and one large Sting ray”.
