On 1 April, 1770, James Cook wrote “8 oClock AM at which time we steer’d West having the Advantage of a fresh Gale at NBE... In the PM had a Moderate gale at North with thick hazy weather attended with rain”.

Joseph Banks wrote “Fresh breeze and fair all day”.
