Description:
Located in the Captain Cook Play Area, Stewart Park, this large circle of resin bound gravel at ground level, depicts a map of the world tracing the routes of Cook’s three voyages.
At the edge of the map are the points of the compass, with two plaques pointing to the places of Cook’s birth and death.
History:
This monument was part of the 2006-2012 Stewart Park Restoration, funded by the Heritage Lottery.
Sited in the Captain Cook orientation space, it is at a key junction in the park. The space provides a meeting place for people, a safe gathering space for children, while educating visitors on the voyages of Cook.
