The sculpture depicts Cook at the age of 16, looking towards Staithes, where he first felt the sea luring him.
Commissioned by Hambleton District Council and Great Ayton Parish Council, it is the work of sculptor Nicholas Dimbleby. Unveiled 12th May 1997 by Captain Chris Blake who was the Master of HM Bark Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook’s ship.
