Plaque to Cook at Arapawa Island, Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand

Description:  A marker plaque, cast in white concrete, erected 1240 feet on the ridge of the peak known as Cook’s Lookout.  Positioned so it would be easily seen from the surrounding landscape.

History: The marker was erected by the Historic Places Trust, and with the help of Lands and Survey, and a RNZAF helicopter.
Unveiled in November 1971 by Drs Charles and Neil Begg, who were responsible for discovering this viewing place on which Cook would have stood, by referring to his chart.
