A $1 coin was produced with “a representation of HM Bark Endeavour against an outline of the east coast of Australia. Depicted in the background are various native Australian flora including Banksia, named after Joseph Banks who first recorded the species, and wattle. Also included in the design is a representation of a sun dial”.
The Royal Mint issued the last of three £2 coins to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Cook’s voyages to the Pacific. The first coin was released in 2018 and the second in 2019. Each of the coins designed by Gary Breeze depicts an event for that year. The 2020-dated coin is for Cook’s exploration of New Zealand and Australia in 1770. It shows parts of the two countries, the bow of Endeavour, and Māori in a canoe.
