my mother is Margaret Burniston and she descends from James cook via James and Margaret Fleck
I think that makes her the 7th great niece of James Cook and myself the 8th nephew.

Hello Paul, thank you for your interesting message. I knew about the Burnicle family, but I was not aware of the Burniston line. Thank you for the information.

hello, I discovered some ago my link to Capt Cook, descended from his sister Margaret, my x5 great grandfather married Jane Thompson daughter of Pallister Thompson and Margaret Fleck the daughter of Margaret Cook. The family name from then is Burniston ,there are indeed lots of Burnistons in the Redcar/Middlesbrough area, My mother was a Burniston, thus Capt Cook is my x7 great grand uncle

All of my life I have been told that Captain James Cook was my several Great Grand father. My Mother was Patricia Brown. Not sure which side of the family. Any way to find out more information?

I am interested in the mourning ring worn by Elizabeth Cook. In the museum in Australia now, it was made by silversmith Wm Jago of St Albans. I should like to know why this jeweller was chosen. Was there any connection between Jago and the Cook family, was he known for this kind of work, or did the family have connections in St Albans?

An aunt (now deceased) told me that Captain Cook was my great-great-great-great-grandmother's uncle on my mother's side. My mother's name was Ada Lingard,, born in Sheffield 1916.
