Hi mate
I am directly descended from Frank Wild, the antarctic explorer, 10 April 1873 – 19 August 1939, whose mother, Mary Cook, claimed that she was descended from the Captain. Apparently, this fact is disputed as I have looked at multiple family trees and can't figure it out.

Hello Karla Rose, you do not state what was your mother's maiden name, so I am unable to help you.
Here is a link to the on-line family tree of the Cook/Fleck family.
http://www.winthrop.dk/cooktree.html
See if you can find your mother's name in the Fleck family tree.
None of Captain Cook's children survived to have children of their own, so the only known relatives of Cook come via his sister Margaret, who married into the Fleck family.

Grant, thank you for doing all of the hard work to trace your line back to Capt. John Cook.
As none of James Cook's children survived to have children of their own, that particular Cook family had no further issue. People wonder if there were any colateral lines of descent, but both of James' brothers died young. I expect your research showed you just how many Cook families there were in the UK in the early 1800s. There are so many family legends like yours alleging descent from Cook. You are to be congratulated on tracing your line back so well.

Hi Cliff L am another descendant of a Cook and a Capt Cook at that was always believed we were related to James through the family, however in researching l found that this was a Captain John Cook who married a Sarah Ann Powell 29 July 1824 • Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England he had 6 Daughters (one of an Elizabeth Cook) and then Captain John Cook died in 1845 in Stourport on Severn, Worcestershire, when he was 45 years old.L have not as of yet found John's Parents to continue back to see where it goes was wondering would your tree have him in it as to maybe add a piece to the jigsaw tyia if you can't help tyvm for your time Regards Grant

Suzanne, Caroline Cook married John Mitchell at Midsummer Norton, Somerset in September 1880. I have traced Caroline back through her father Samuel Cook, to her grandfather Jabez Cook. This Cook family appears to have its roots in Somerset. As none of James Cook's children survived to have children of their own, he has no direct descendants. Without further evidence I can see no link between your Cook ancestors in Somerset, and the Captain James Cook.

My Great Grandmother was Caroline Cook, who married John Mitchell (Somerset). There is a family tradition that she was a distant relative of Captain James Cook. I have no evidence for this, except for a water colour called Sunset at Whitby, showing the harbour. This was given as a wedding present to her son, my Grandfather, Samuel Mitchell, also from Radstock in Somerset and a long way from Yorkshire. I have inherited it, and although pursuing the family tree have not been able to substantiate a connection. I am hoping you may be able to help me resolve the matter once and for all. Thank you. Suzanne Walsh.

I am also a descendant of Rebecca Shield (nee Cook) who died in Forbes, Australia in 1902. Her lineage has been verified by Forbes Historical society and goes back to John Cook born 1695. He was the son of John Cook and Jean Duncan and brother to James Cook (Captain Cook's father). Rebecca is the great grand neice of Captain Cook.
