Captain Cook sailed into Waalmbal Birri, now known as the Endeavour River, on 17 June 1770.
He spent 48 days (seven weeks) here, the longest and most significant land-based stay during Cook’s east coast expedition.
The festival includes a re-enactment of the landing of Captain Cook and his interactions with the local Indigenous people (Bama).
