Edward Cawn sailed in Resolution for the whole of Cook’s Third Voyage as an AB. Cawn (as his name is spelt in the muster) joined the ship on 20 February, 1776. He was punished with 12 lashes on 3 January, 1777, for leaving his bed on deck all night.1 Otherwise, he does not feature in the records of the voyage.
Edward Cawne was baptised on 7 December, 1755, at St. Alphege, Greenwich, the son of Nathaniel and Sarah Cawne (as the name is spelt in the register). Edward had one sister and one brother, Nathaniel. Nathaniel married Sarah Wilson on 8 December, 1749, at St. Benet Paul’s Wharf. The register says he was from Woolwich, and she from Greenwich.
