Lot 1351 – A full-sized replica of Endeavour.
This replica was built on Teesside 25 years ago.1
It is built of steel to the measurements of the original Endeavour. Some of the cabins have been created as period displays to reflect the ship’s history. The arrangements differ slightly from the original, as the replica has one fewer internal decks.
The vessel has been berthed in the river Tees at Stockton on Tees, since it was built. Most days it has been on public display. Although the replica was built at a cost of £1.3m, the auctioneer’s estimate for the vessel was only £80,000-120,000.
The replica sold for £110,000 to an anonymous buyer from North-East England. It is known that amongst the bidders were buyers interested in displaying the vessel at Whitby and Hartlepool, as well as others intending to keep her at Stockton.
At the time of writing, no announcement had been made about the new owner, nor what is planned for the future of the vessel.
