Statue to Cook at Waimea Town, Kaui, Hawaiian Islands, USA

Description:
This statue stands in Hofgaard  Park at Waimea, almost outside the Bank of Hawai’I building.  This park is a small triangular area between Kaumuali’I Highway and Waimea road in the town centre.
The statue is a replica of the one in Whitby, England, sculpted by Sir John Tweed.
Nearby is a block of rough stone on which are two plaques, (see Monument ‘Statue Site, Waimea Town, Kauai, Hawai’I’).

History:
Originally this statue was installed at the Waimea Canyon School, before being moved to its current location.
The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and Arts purchased the Waimea replica from the firm Derek & Patricia Freeborn, Ltd., in 1978, as part of the 200th anniversary of Cook’s landing in the islands.
